Riedji hamlet, high above the Zermatt valley, Switzerland
Would you build your house here? This is the hamlet of Riedji, a tiny summer pasture 600m above the Zermatt valley in Switzerland. It is only accessible on foot by a steep and narrow path. The oldest of these buildings was built in 1508 and the roofs are tiled in massive stone slabs.
It does beg the question why? Or does it - I would love to have a retreat like that to hide away for a week, cook over a log fire and do some drawings! Gets you dreaming right?!
