Grande Casse at sunrise from the Grande Motte
I had been wondering for a while how best to get a good photo of the Grande Casse (Vanoise, France). The view from the adjacent 'Grande Motte' (3653m) provides a striking angle but I realised that there was only a short window of opportunity to shoot it as I imagined. In a few weeks the sun will rise more in the east than the south and then the mountain i'm on would cast a shadow on the one I'm shooting.

Valentine and I got up at 3.50 (from a cousins house near Les Arcs), drove an hour to Tignes, met up with friends Si and Matt and skinned fast up 1500m in the dark in a freezing wind to get to the summit just 10 mins before sunrise...! I got excruciating 'hot aches' while shooting but it was all worth it!
